Mid Century Design has built a strong following in Auckland with a particular focus on vintage pieces from the USA. Despite the recognised influence of European design in many of these pieces, the US market developed its own distinctive styles. “Modernism, from which the era of Mid Century furniture evolved, reflected a time of optimism & excitement in the USA. Living styles were moving to a more relaxed format while growth in the cities saw the emergence of apartments & smaller living spaces with design reflecting these changes. The enthusiasm that Mid Century engenders continues” says Bridget Hanley “& our showroom has become a real point of interest. The selection of furniture & accessories is constantly changing; the range of American pieces means there is something for everyone & the showroom itself has an appeal rarely seen in this market”.
